Pouring concrete in Eureka, CA

Eureka is where we're based, and most folks here know Sequoia Park, with its trails through the redwood forest, meadows, a duck pond and two small creeks, and the Sequoia Park Zoo right next to it. The Clarke Historical Museum tells Humboldt County's story, from Native American cultures to the gold rush and the lumber years, inside the landmark Bank of Eureka building. The city keeps up 20 parks in all, and its parks crew looks after street trees all across Eureka.

Some homes with a Eureka address sit inside city limits and some don't, and that decides whether your project goes through the city or Humboldt County. The city's ward map shows whether your address is inside the city. I learned concrete working on crews around Eureka, and this is still where we're based.

Concrete contractor services in Eureka, CA

Eureka Concrete is a concrete contractor in Eureka, CA, with 16 services, from front walks to foundations. Price moves with the size of the job, the tear-out and the base work your ground needs, and the schedule moves with permits, weather and curing, the wait before a slab can take weight. Your free written estimate lays it all out.

  • Textured concrete walkway and driveway beside a house meet white brick-patterned steps and black metal railings.

    Concrete driveway building

We dig out and pack the base, add rebar, steel that keeps cracks tight, and pour a driveway built for the vehicles you park on it.

  • A brown concrete step sits outside a white-sided house on a dark textured concrete patio.

    Concrete patio construction

A new patio out back gets a base packed firm, a gentle slope away from the house so rain runs off, and the finish you pick.

  • Stamped concrete front steps and landing in mottled brown tones lead to a red entry door set in a stone-faced house.

    Stamped concrete services

Stamped concrete presses a pattern and color into the fresh pour so a patio or walk looks like stone, brick or slate while staying one solid slab.

  • New concrete sidewalk and landing lead to steps at a white-sided house, bordered by lawn and bare soil.

    Concrete sidewalk building

We build front walks and side paths with control joints, cuts that give cracks a planned place to go instead of wandering across the walk.

  • Exposed-aggregate concrete steps lead to a home entrance, flanked by stone walls, flower beds, and potted plants.

    Garage floor concrete

Garage floors carry parked cars, dropped tools and oil drips, so we pour yours thick enough for the load over a base that's dug out and packed.

  • A furnished concrete patio beside a white house, with a picnic table, umbrella seating, outdoor rug, and potted flowers.

    Decorative concrete

For a homeowner who wants more than plain gray, decorative concrete adds color, exposed stone or a smooth polished look to patios, walks and steps.

  • A long gray block retaining wall borders a gravel area below a wooded slope.

    Concrete retaining walls

We build concrete retaining walls on footings with drainage behind them, so a sloped yard holds its shape and water drains away instead of pushing on the wall.

  • A stone outdoor patio features a circular fire pit, curved low wall, red chairs, and a covered bar.

    Concrete floor installation

Interior concrete floors for workshops, basements and new rooms get a level, packed subgrade, the ground the slab sits on, and a smooth finish ready for flooring.

  • Light concrete pool deck surrounds a blue swimming pool beneath a black-framed screened enclosure.

    Concrete pool decks

We pour pool decks with a broom finish, a light brushed texture that gives bare feet grip, and slope them so splash water runs off instead of pooling.

  • Curved concrete steps with black handrails connect a stone retaining-wall garden to the entrance of a stone-and-stucco house.

    Concrete steps construction

New front or back steps get even risers, the height of each step, and a slight pitch so rain doesn't sit on the treads and turn slick.

  • A curved stamped concrete patio has a dark, stone-like pattern and a lighter contrasting border beside a lawn.

    Slab foundation building

A slab foundation is one poured floor and footing that a house, garage or shop sits on, built over a packed base with steel tying it together.

  • A broad, smooth concrete driveway with control joints leads to a white garage door on a brick house.

    Foundation installation

We form and pour foundations for new homes and additions, the part of the build that every wall and floor above it depends on.

  • Curved swimming pool with a terracotta-colored coping sits within a white screened enclosure, surrounded by lawn and trees.

    Concrete parking lot building

For apartment buildings, shops and small businesses, we build concrete parking lots with the base and thickness daily traffic needs and slopes that carry rain to the drains.

  • Large rectangular swimming pool and spa beside a cream concrete patio with lounge chairs, an outdoor kitchen, and a putting green.

    Concrete footings

Footings are the concrete pads under walls, posts and decks that spread the weight into firm ground, and we dig them to the depth your plans call for.

  • Curving stamped concrete sidewalk with an irregular stone pattern leads to a brick home through landscaped garden beds.

    Foundation raising

If floors slope, doors stick or a foundation corner has dropped, we find the cause first, then lift and support the low section back toward level.

  • Stamped concrete patio with a wood-plank pattern surrounds a circular stone fire pit and dark Adirondack chairs.

    Concrete cutting

When a broken section, a trench or a doorway has to come out of existing concrete, we saw-cut clean lines so the rest of the slab stays intact.

What happens after you call

  1. Call or send the form

Call (707) 572-3701 or send us the form with a few lines about your driveway, patio, walk or bigger project. We get back to you within one business day to set a time for me to come out. Not sure yet what you need? That's what the visit is for.

  2. I look at the job with you

I come out myself, look at the old concrete and where the water runs, and answer every question you've got. You get a free written estimate with no obligation, and before anything is scheduled we check whether your address goes through the city or the county.

  3. Our crew does the work

Our crew digs out, packs the base, sets the forms and pours, with me on site while the work gets done. If something under the old slab changes the plan once it's open, I'll show you and talk it through with you before we go any further.

  4. We walk it together

When the job's done, we walk it together so you can see the finish, the joints and the slope and ask about anything that's on your mind. The new slab still needs time to cure before you put it to full use, and I'll tell you how long for yours.

Your concrete questions answered

How much does a new concrete driveway cost in Eureka?

It comes down to the driveway's size and thickness, how much old concrete has to come out and how much soft ground under it needs digging out and replacing. Stamped or colored finishes add to it, and a plain broom finish on firm ground keeps it lower. Your free on-site estimate puts it in writing, with the base work spelled out.

Is resurfacing concrete cheaper than replacing it?

Often it is, but only when the slab underneath is sound and the trouble is on top, like chipping or a worn, dusty surface. If the slab is sinking or cracked clear through because the base gave out, a new surface won't fix that, and I'll tell you so before you pay for one.

How long before I can drive on a new concrete driveway?

Usually you can walk on it after about a day and drive on it after about a week, because concrete keeps getting stronger while it cures. The tear-out and the pour are part of the wait too, so I'll go over the whole schedule for your driveway when I give you the estimate.

Does a concrete contractor need a license to work in Eureka?

Yes, any business working inside Eureka city limits needs a City Business License, and that includes contractors based outside the city. If a general builder bids a concrete-only job, the state licensing board says that in some cases they need the right specialty license or a licensed specialty sub to take it. We're fully licensed and insured, so ask about it when I'm out at your place.

Do I need a permit for a concrete driveway or patio in Eureka?

Ask the city's Building Division about your project before work starts, since the answer depends on the job. Homes outside city limits go through Humboldt County instead, and when a job does need a permit, we handle the paperwork with you and start early because some of it takes time.

Do you guarantee your concrete work?

Yes, our work is backed by our satisfaction guarantee. Cracking is the worry I hear most, and while nobody can honestly promise a slab that won't crack, control joints cut at the right time give cracks a straight line to follow instead of wandering.

How thick should a new concrete driveway be?

Usually about 4 inches for cars, and 5 to 6 inches where heavier trucks or trailers park, with rebar or wire inside to hold cracks tight. Thickness only helps if the base under it is dug out and packed, because a slab poured on raked dirt settles as the dirt does. That base is hidden on day one, so it's the first thing a tight budget cuts, and it's the last thing I'd cut.

Can you pour concrete in Eureka when it's rainy?

Usually yes in light drizzle with covers ready, but we'd rather move a pour than place concrete in steady rain. Extra water on fresh concrete leaves a weak, dusty top that chips later. Cool, damp weather is easy on curing because the slab dries slowly, though it can mean waiting a little longer before you drive on it.
